New Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels has been hard at work filling out his coaching staff as he looks to take the franchise to the next level. One of the big questions was who McDaniels would choose as his offensive coordinator as he has made his living on that side of the ball and would be very meticulous with who he brings in.

Whoever was named as the Raiders’ new offensive coordinator would have to be someone who sees the game in a similar way as McDaniels, and the two of them could work in formulating the perfect game plan every week for the team. As such, it should come as no surprise that McDaniels would bring in someone he is very familiar with

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Raiders have hired former New England Patriots wide receivers coach Mick Lombardi as their new offensive coordinator.

The Las Vegas Raiders have hired New England Patriots wide receivers coach Mick Lombardi as their offensive coordinator, league sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Saturday.

Lombardi does have some ties with the franchise as he is the son of former executive Michael Lombardi who spent 10 seasons with the Raiders from 1998 to 2007. Lombardi has been with the Patriots since 2019, where he has served as assistant quarterbacks coach and wide receivers coach.

Last season Lombardi was in charge of the Patriots’ red zone game plan, and McDaniels has said that the two see the offense in similar ways. With Lombardi and McDaniels having those similarities and having worked together previously, the two should have a great head start in figuring out the best way to get the Raiders’ offense going next season.

The hiring of Lombardi continues the trend of coaches with ties to the Patriots being brought in under McDaniels. In addition to Lombardi, the team has also brought in Carmen Bricillo to coach the team’s offensive line and Bo Hardegree to be the team’s quarterbacks coach. Additionally, defensive coordinator Patrick Graham was a Patriots assistant from 2009 to 2015.
