Your fantasy league isn’t only won on draft day, it’s won on those crucial days when you pick up that great waiver wire free agent before anyone else thinks of nabbing him. That’s why we here at Raiders Tribune will be helping you out and giving you the scoop on the best guys to pick up to turn your fantasy team into a championship contender.
Best Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 5:
Johnathan Franklin, RB, Green Bay Packers
Eddie Lacy is the Packers rookie RB everyone was talking about, but it was Franklin who stepped in the absence of Lacy in Week 3 against a very tough Cincinnati Bengals defense. Franklin ran for 103 yards and a touchdown on just 13 carries and even with Lacy set to return from a concussion, Franklin will surely get his share of carries as well.
With pretty favorable matchups against the Detroit Lions and Baltimore Ravens coming up, Franklin is worth a look and is owned in only 21% of Yahoo! leagues.
Robert Woods, WR, Buffalo Bills
Another rookie doing big things, but getting little notice because he’s all the way in Buffalo.
Robert Woods is quickly becoming a favorite target of quarterback E.J. Manuel and has only been off the field for four plays in the last two weeks. Woods has had at least six targets in each of the last three games and is coming off an eight catch, 80 yard, one TD (had a 2nd reversed) performance against the Baltimore Ravens.
Owned in only 13% of Yahoo! leagues, Woods is a good pickup as a WR3 or flex option in deeper leagues.
Coby Fleener, TE, Indianapolis Colts
Coby Fleener is an exceptional receiving tight end who has an already established chemistry with quarterback Andrew Luck from their college days at Stanford.
With fellow TE Dwayne Allen being down for the season, Fleener assumes a much larger role for the Colts, very similar to Dallas Clark’s role with Peyton Manning. He is coming off a seven catch, 77 yard, one TD performance last week and even though he has a tough matchup this week against the Seattle Seahawks, Fleener will be a consistent flex option and decent TE1 for the remainder of the season.
