The Las Vegas Raiders have already made one big move this season in trading Davante Adams. The team, particularly head coach Antonio Pierce, insists that they are not tanking, but that doesn’t mean the franchise won’t consider another move before the trade deadline and one name that could make sense is another receiver in Jakobi Meyers.
While not the big name Adams is, Meyers is a solid and reliable receiver ideal for a number two role next to a top guy. If the Raiders were to look at making him available, one potential option could be the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have been looking for someone to line up next to George Pickens.
According to Dallas Robinson of Pro Football Network, Meyers would be an ideal addition for the Steelers, and the Raiders receiver should be on their radar as the trade deadline approaches:
Jakobi Meyers should be on Pittsburgh’s radar heading into the deadline. The Las Vegas Raiders wideout’s prowess in the short and intermediate ranges of the field could be a perfect complement for Pickens’ downfield ability. Meyers has lined up in the slot on roughly 40% of his snaps this season but can also play on the perimeter.
Meyers is miscast in the top receiver role he currently holds with the Raiders, but he would be perfect in the role outlined here. Still, it is unclear whether the Raiders are even looking to deal him. The Steelers tried to trade for San Francisco 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk in the offseason, so it would make sense if they were still in the receiver market.
As for the compensation, Robinson could see a mid-round pick going to the Raiders considering Meyers’ talent as well as his reasonable contract which runs through next season:
That’s why we’re projecting a 2025 fourth-round pick to go back to Las Vegas. Having already traded Adams, the Raiders might have to be convinced to give up Meyers. At the same time, Meyers’ affordable contract makes the price tag worth it for the Steelers.
Ultimately, this all depends on the Raiders’ desire to move on from Meyers. If they truly are not looking to tank and gain more draft capital, the team could value Meyers’ leadership and professionalism and want to keep him around. But there is no denying that they could get a decent pick for him if moved.
Antonio Pierce says Michael Mayer Close to Return for Raiders
The Raiders could soon get another pass-catcher back with the team. Tight end Michael Mayer has been away from the Raiders since Week 3 due to personal reasons, but Antonio Pierce says the second-year man is ‘getting close’ to a return.
Exactly what the reasons are for Mayer’s time away from the Raiders remains unknown, but the tight end gives the Raiders offense another weapon as rookie Brock Bowers has been far and away the team’s best player on that side of the ball and needs more help.
