The 2021 season was full of ups and downs for the Las Vegas Raiders, yet they persevered and managed to make the Wild Card round. Although they lost to the eventual AFC Champions, the Cincinnati Bengals, the Raiders should feel optimistic heading into the offseason.

With a new general manager and head coach in Dave Ziegler and Josh McDaniels in tow, Las Vegas’ roster could look very different for the 2022 campaign, but one player who should be returning is Derek Carr. Carr has repeatedly said how much he loves playing for the franchise and would like to remain there long-term, and this offseason, he will be angling for an extension as he enters the final year of his deal.

Opinions of Carr are generally mixed as a quarterback, considering he has yet to win a postseason game. Hence, it is fair to wonder what a reasonable dollar amount would be. However, it appears that he may be in line for a significant raise, according to Vincent Bonsignore of Las Vegas Review-Journal:

Every offseason, the quarterback market has been reset thanks to other lucrative extensions handed out, and it seems like Carr could be cashing in if the report is true. Carr’s last year will pay him a little under $20 million, so a $40 million per season extension would be quite the leap.

Whether or not Carr is deserving of that much is a reasonable debate, but it will be interesting to see how the new front office handles negotiations. Both sides remained non-committal about a long-term deal earlier this offseason, which could play out well into training camp.
