Getting the right offensive coordinator under head coach Antonio Pierce is imperative for the success of the Las Vegas Raiders going forward. The team has a lot of offensive talent and getting the most out of it has been an issue over the past couple of seasons.

The team has interviewed a number of candidates already for the position, but with many teams hiring new coordinators, some options are already off the table for the Raiders. Even still, the team has been linked with the likes of former Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury and Pittsburgh Steelers QB coach Mike Sullivan.

But apparently, there is another big-name possibility that no one knows about. According to Hondo Carpenter in the latest episode of the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast, a former head coach could be getting an interview for the offensive coordinator position, but it is unknown exactly who that would be:

“There [are] still a lot of names out there and I was told that there was one name that nobody has. I don’t have him. I don’t know [who] it is… that could possibly get an interview that was a rather large, big name [coach]. A former head coach. The person said I’m not going to tell you who it is, so I can truthfully tell you I have no idea who it is, but I was told it was a very well-known former coach.”

Something like this will certainly get many wheels turning with who the Raiders could possibly be bringing in for an interview. Had it not already been known that Kingsbury was interviewed for the position, he could have fallen under this category, but that isn’t the case.

Some have speculated that it could be former Miami Dolphins and New York Jets head coach Adam Gase. While Gase flamed out as a head coach, he did have success as an offensive coordinator, most notably with the Denver Broncos when Peyton Manning broke the record for most passing yards in a season.

One thing that is for sure is that there will be a lot of eyes on who the Raiders bring in to run the offense. With the right choice, the team could make a big leap next season.

Raiders interview Alex Van Pelt & Luke Getsy for offensive coordinator position

The Raiders have been looking at many options for the offensive coordinator spot, and while they aren’t the biggest names, the team did bring in intriguing options in Alex Van Pelt and Luke Getsy for interviews as well.

Van Pelt held the same position with the Cleveland Browns last season where they ranked 10th in points despite having to go through four different quarterbacks during the season, ending with Joe Flacco being signed after not being on a team all season long.

Getsy has some ties to the Raiders organization. He spent the last two seasons with the Chicago Bears in the same position, and he could find a bit more success with the Raiders than he showed with the Bears.
