The ongoing saga with Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Chandler Jones has long been extremely concerning. Jones has regularly gone on social media making claims against the franchise, particularly head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler.
While the team has tried to handle things privately, Jones has regularly taken to social media with his issues. Earlier this week, Jones claimed that he was taken to a mental hospital against his will and forced to be injected with drugs. More recently, Jones broke down while live on social media after making some very troubling claims regarding McDaniels and the death of his former teammate Aaron Hernandez.
Unfortunately, this has now taken another unfortunate turn as the Raiders star was arrested in Las Vegas, according to TMZ Sports:
Chandler Jones was arrested early Thursday morning in Las Vegas, TMZ Sports has learned … just hours after the Raiders star broke down in tears on social media.
The 33-year-old All-Pro was booked into Clark County Detention Center in Nevada around midnight … where Jones still remains behind bars.
The exact details surrounding the arrest are currently unclear, but our sources tell us Chandler violated a protective order, so cops responded and arrested him.
Our law enforcement sources tell us the Super Bowl champion was cooperative while being taken into custody.
Jones was reportedly arrested on two counts of violation of a domestic violence protection order. The Raiders would issue a statement following news of the arrest:
“The Raiders are hopeful that Chandler Jones receives the care that he needs. He, his family, and all those involved are in our thoughts. As this is now a legal matter, we will not be providing further comment.”
Once again, the most important thing in this case is the mental health of Jones. While he has repeatedly claimed that he is perfectly fine and sane, his actions continue to bring that into question, and the hope is that he will be able to get whatever care he needs to ultimately get better.
Information will continue to come down in the coming days, but the hope in the end is that Jones will recover and move past this. What exactly has caused this spiral from Jones remains unclear, but it is well beyond just football. While the Raiders team will have to continue to try and push this to the side to get ready for Sunday’s game, there is no doubt that thoughts will be with Jones through this saga.
