Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden announced during his press conference on Monday that the team has activated rookie cornerback Isaiah Johnson off injured reserve and as a corresponding move, they released linebacker Brandon Marshall.

The Raiders drafted Johnson in the first round out of Houston, but he suffered a face injury during the preseason that has kept him out until this point.

It is no secret that the Raiders defense has struggled this season, particularly against the pass, so the hope is that Johnson will be able to aid a depleted secondary group for the rest of the season.

When the Raiders traded Gareon Conley to the Houston Texans, Gruden said that the plan was to get a look at some of their young cornerbacks for the rest of the season like Johnson and Trayvon Mullen, who has played well in Conley’s spot since the trade.

Marshall’s second tenure with the Raiders did not last long as he was just signed last week due to some injuries in the linebacking corps. He was inactive for the Week 9 games against the Detroit Lions though and now just a day later, the organization is letting him go.

Marshall originally signed with the Raiders in the offseason after spending his first six seasons with the Denver Broncos, although he wound up being cut at the end of training camp.
