The Oakland Raiders will open the doors to O.co Coliseum this weekend with the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars coming to town. Along with the Raiders potentially on the verge of winning their first game of the season at the expense of arguably the worst team in the NFL, the team has decided to sign veteran fullback/running back Marcel Reece to a three-year contract extension.

With Reece locked up for the next three years, the attention turns to Darren McFadden and his current contract situation with the Raiders. Although early indications pointed to McFadden potentially talking about a contract extension with the Raiders before the season began, the team has left the ball in the veteran running back’s court as he’ll have to prove his worth this season.

Fortunately for the Raiders, McFadden is up to the challenge of proving his worth to the team. With all the injury problems McFadden has had over the years, the team wanting the veteran to show he’s worth a lucrative extension is a smart move by the team.

When healthy, McFadden is arguably one of the best running back in the league. Despite McFadden’s potential to be an elite back in the NFL, he’s struggled to stay healthy over the past few seasons leading many to believe he simply is not a solid long-term option for the Raiders.
