Although the Oakland Raiders have ushered in some significant changes to their roster in recent years, it appears the approach has extended to the front office as well.
The Raiders made headlines this offseason when reports indicated that there was some distrust within their scouting department leading up to the 2019 NFL Draft. This resulted in general manager Mike Mayock sending some scouts home prior to the draft which then led to plenty of speculation surrounding the front office.
The dust has now seemingly cleared now that Oakland has cashed in on its bevy of picks while making some lucrative signings in free agency. It seems they have also decided to make some changes under Mayock.
The Raiders officially announced the hiring of Jim Abrams, Dwayne Joseph, DuJuan Daniels, Walter Juliff, Jack Gilmore, John Hill, and Adam Maxie to their scouting department. Mayock has also promoted Tom Delaney, David Christoff, Teddy Atlas, and Trey Scott:
“The Oakland Raiders have hired Jim Abrams as director of college scouting, Dwayne Joseph as director of pro personnel, DuJuan Daniels as assistant director of player personnel and Walter Juliff as senior advisor to the general manager,” the team announced Tuesday.
“The Raiders have also hired Jack Gilmore as scouting coordinator, John Hill as a pro scout and Adam Maxie as a pro scouting assistant.”
“Additionally, General Manager Mike Mayock has promoted Tom Delaney to senior vice president – director of football administration, David Christoff to director of football analytics, Teddy Atlas to assistant director of college scouting and Trey Scott to assistant director of player personnel.”
It is safe to say that the Raiders have added a healthy crop of new faces to Mayock’s scouting department after spending last season making changes to Jon Gruden’s roster. While it has been quite an eventful offseason amidst all the changes, the expectations still seem to be rather high.
Both Abrams and Juliff come to Oakland after spending the bulk of their careers with the Dallas Cowboys. They will now be teaming up with Joseph and Hill after both sides spent that last several years competing in the NFC East during the latter’s time with the Philadelphia Eagles.
There is no question that Delaney is certainly deserving of the promotion as he enters his 20th year in Oakland. Meanwhile, Christoff, Atlas, and Scott are just a few of the remaining scouts that have stayed despite all the changes that were made to the franchise in recent years.
