There always seems to be some drama brewing when it comes to the Oakland Raiders. Reports out of the Bay Area revealed the team’s move to Las Vegas would likely be delayed a year because owner Mark Davis has yet to secure a lease contract to begin construction on the stadium.
While the delay in moving is unfortunate, there is also the matter of Derek Carr’s contract extension. It is widely expected around the NFL that the Raiders and Carr will agree on an extension to keep him in Oakland, but talks have reportedly stalled in recent weeks. According to Scott Bair of NBC Sports, general manager Reggie McKenzie has not changed his stance about Carr’s future with the franchise:
Reggie: "We're going to make sure (Carr) contract gets done … I want Derek to be a Raider his entire career." Nothing new there

McKenzie’s comments are sure to calm some of the silver and black fanbase as the general manager has proven that he knows what he is doing. Carr hopes for his contract situation to be resolved by the start of training camp, which gives McKenzie and his front office about three months to get a deal done. While anything could happen between now and the beginning of training camp, signs still point toward Carr ultimately staying with the Raiders.
A budding superstar quarterback, Carr has proved that he belongs amongst the elite tier of signal callers in the league. If not for a season-ending leg injury at the end of last season, the Raiders would have possibly made a deeper playoff run. If Carr re-signs, the Raiders should be a contender for years to come.
