The Oakland Raiders announced on Friday that they have signed former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver J.J. Nelson to a contract. They did not release the terms of the deal though.
Nelson was a fifth-round draft pick of the Cardinals in 2015 out of Alabama-Birmingham. In four seasons with the team, he caught 81 passes for 1,439 yards and 10 touchdowns.
The 2018 season was not his best as in 14 games he only caught seven balls for 64 yards without finding paydirt. He had at least 500 yards in each of the two seasons prior to that though, with his career year coming in 2017 when he had 34 receptions, 568 yards and six touchdowns.
The Raiders receiving corps has undergone an overhaul this offseason, first acquiring perhaps the best receiver in football in Antonio Brown via trade.
The team then inked former Los Angeles Chargers receiver Tyrell Williams to a four-year contract before releasing Jordy Nelson.
So Derek Carr will have three new weapons to throw to this season, in addition to likely a new running back and tight end with Marshawn Lynch and Jared Cook both not expected to return.
