With the Week 1 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts only days away, rumors have begun to circulate about the team’s lack of confidence in potential starter, Terrelle Pryor.

Pryor may ultimately be the best option under center for this team heading into Week 1, but rookie Matt McGloin may be the quarterback the team secretly wants as the starter this season according to Michael Silver via NFL.com:

According to Silver, there are voices in the organization who believe McGloin gives the Raiders the best chance to win.

Once the team parted ways with veteran Carson Palmer via trade with the Arizona Cardinals, the Raiders’ front office targeted Matt Flynn of the Seattle Seahawks. Flynn was brought in to take over for Palmer and potentially be the future face of the storied NFL franchise.

Unfortunately, Flynn hasn’t panned out with Pryor emerging as the better option and McGloin playing better than expected during the preseason.

Apparently, owner Mark Davis is fond of Pryor and wants him to get a chance via Silver:

According to Silver, Pryor has an ally in Raiders owner Mark Davis, who would like to see what the third-year pro can do. As of right now, it appears that Pryor will be named the starter for Sunday’s game against the Colts. The Ohio State product became the favorite for the starting gig after showing the kind of athleticism during the preseason that will benefit the team considering the weak offensive line.

Although Pryor may be the starter moving forward, the Raiders’ coaching staff may have him on a short leash with McGloin potentially getting a shot at some point. Flynn is still in the mix in Oakland, but McGloin has turned some heads taking this quarterback controversy to the next level with three players opposed to just two.
