The main focus for the Las Vegas Raiders during the offseason and throughout NFL free agency has been to upgrade the defensive side of the football. The team has been able to do that in some areas, but the secondary remains an area of need for the Silver and Black.

One big-name player that has been linked to the Raiders for quite some time is veteran cornerback Richard Sherman. He remains unsigned, but that might not be for much longer, according to Alicia Colegrove.

Sherman isn’t the hot commodity he once was while with the Seattle Seahawks. Although he’s no longer the player of old, he still a force to be reckoned with in the secondary and would be a welcome addition for the Raiders for a few different reasons.

If the Raiders bring in some young corners in the 2021 NFL Draft, and there’s a good chance of that, Sherman would provide some leadership for some of the promising young players on defense in Las Vegas. He’d be an upgrade for the defense immediately while also helping develop players for the foreseeable future.

Another big-name player that has been rumored to be linked to the Raiders is Melvin Ingram of the Los Angeles Chargers. Sherman seems to be a more realistic option for Las Vegas as he might not have the costly price tag that may come with Ingram.

Only time will tell whether Sherman ultimately returns to the San Francisco 49ers or decides to leave in favor of the Raiders or the New York Jets, as Colegrove suggests.
