Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll looks toward the scoreboard during the third quarter against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Jan. 7, 2024.

The Las Vegas Raiders were known to covet former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to be the franchise’s next head coach. But Johnson chose to take the Chicago Bears job over the Raiders leading them to now have to move on to other options.

The Raiders have already interviewed a handful of other candidates including Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. But it is another big name who is emerging as the favorite to take the job.

According to Vic Tafur of The Athletic, former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is believed to be the favorite to be the Raiders next head coach:

Now, the Raiders have to turn to their alternatives, and former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is believed to be the Raiders’ top option, according to league sources. Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is also believed to be a strong candidate, but many around the league expect him to wind up with the New Orleans Saints, the team he played for and coached for, or the New York Jets, who he also played for.

There is no denying that Carroll has had a lot of success and turned the Seahawks into one of the most successful franchises in the NFL during his time there. There will be a concern about his age as he would be the oldest coach in NFL history at 74 years old should he return to the sideline, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t fit for the job.

Other candidates do still remain as the Raiders have interviewed multiple coaches including former New York Jets coach Robert Saleh and former Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera. The team also plans on bringing in Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken as well via Tafur:

There are three other candidates who the Raiders have interviewed virtually: Glenn, Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. The Raiders also plan to interview Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

Whether it is Carroll, Glenn or someone else who hasn’t emerged just yet, the most important thing is that the Raiders nail this selection, as well as their GM choice and finally begin turning things around.

Tom Brady gaining more control within Raiders organization

As the offseason has come for the Raiders it has become clear that minority owner Tom Brady will have a big say in the decisions this franchise will make in terms of the next coach and GM, not to mention roster decisions as well.

This is no accident as a recent report noted that Brady is assuming more power and influence within the Raiders organization. While final say still lands with Mark Davis, Brady seems to be the person running the show.
