Raiders Rumors: Jon Gruden ‘Very Interested’ In Kyler Murray At 2019 NFL Draft
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

With the 2019 NFL Draft just around the corner, it appears Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden has already expressed plenty of interest in Kyler Murray.

Both Gruden and general Mike Mayock have raved about Derek Carr’s status as a franchise quarterback. The two have largely stuck to that notion going into the offseason.

Regardless, there is still plenty of speculation regarding Carr’s future with the Raiders. It seems Gruden may have some other ideas in mind under center.

According to Peter King of NBC Sports, Gruden is reportedly intrigued by what Murray brings to the table:

“Someone in Indianapolis told me Jon Gruden is the worst poker player in the NFL. He and Mike Mayock can talk all they want about Derek Carr … but I’ll tell you Jon Gruden is very interested in Kyler Murray.”

The rumors certainly go against what Gruden and Mayock have been preaching about Carr throughout the offseason. However, it appears to be nothing more than an attempt to potentially get a solid return for him if they decide to move ahead with Murray.

The prospect of the Raiders parting ways with Carr is certainly not too far-fetched considering how things have played out since Gruden arrived. Oakland made headlines last year when they traded Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper away in exchange for draft picks and it is safe to say that the Raiders would not hesitate to do the same if the right offer came along for Carr.

Oakland currently owns the fourth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft which puts them well within range to select Murray. It will be interesting to see whether or not there is some truth to the reports in the coming weeks.
