All the focus for the Las Vegas Raiders heading into Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Chargers is clinching a playoff spot. Of course, Las Vegas needs to come out with a win against their division rivals to be playoff-bound, but along with the postseason being a priority, the team will be looking for a new head coach in the offseason.
The plot thickened this weekend with Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh confirming to the father of Darrius Clemons that he’ll be entertaining coaching offers to return to the NFL (H/T Pro Football Talk).
“He said that he’ll entertain [it],” Larry Clemons, the father of Darrius Clemons, told 247sports.com. “He was up front with us about that. I had Coach Harbaugh speak to my pastor. They had a good conversation. Our pastor asked him about that, and that’s just that’s the [reply] that he gave him.”
There will likely be no shortage of coaching candidates for the Raiders once the season officially does end for the Silver and Black. Although plenty of names will be floating around like Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney, the frontrunner might be Harbaugh.
It is incredibly early in the process, and there’s no telling how things may pan out for the Raiders if they’re able to punch their ticket to the postseason. Still, the prospect of hiring Harbaugh has to be intriguing for Mark Davis and company.
Other potential coaching candidates for the Raiders could include New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.
