NFL Rumors: Eric Decker Scheduled To Visit Raiders

The Oakland Raiders have spent the last week adding pieces to their roster through the free agent market. This effort has picked up over the past few days with their eyes set on getting back in the playoff picture next season.

The front office has shifted that focus to landing proven talent on both sides of the ball. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Raiders held a visit with veteran wide receiver Eric Decker on Tuesday:

Decker is coming off his first season with the Tennessee Titans where he was a solid option in a secondary role in the passing game. The veteran hauled in 54 catches on 83 targets for 563 receiving yards with a touchdown while playing all 16 regular season games for the first time since 2013.

Although this isn’t a significant level of production, Decker is still a reliable option in the passing game at this stage of his career. It should be noted that it was his first season after suffering a torn labrum during the 2016 campaign with the New York Jets. The 31-year-old is a proven commodity after having put together three seasons with at least 80 catches,1,000 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns.

His potential addition to the wide receiver core would provide Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr with a more formidable passing attack that has already seen the acquisition of former Pro Bowl wideout Jordy Nelson on a two-year, $15 million deal. This will also see Amari Cooper enter the season healthy to where he could be primed to bounce back from his disappointing 2017 campaign.

Decker could quickly fit in as an effective option out of the slot while also being a dependable target in the red zone. There is plenty of potential for him to become a highly valued asset to the team in the passing game next season and possibly beyond that. The fact that the team has brought him in for a visit could see things pick up on both sides over the next few days.
