Raiders Rumors: DeAndre Washington To Sign One-Year Contract With Chiefs

The Las Vegas Raiders have had a busy offseason, remodeling their roster through free agency in hopes of getting back to the postseason in 2020.

One position that they didn’t need to put too many resources into is running back as they have one of the best in the league in Josh Jacobs, who is heading into his second season.

They did secure his backup by inking Jalen Richard to a two-year extension at the beginning of the offseason, giving them a pass-catching option to spell Jacobs one needed.

That unfortunately left DeAndre Washington as the odd man out though as he also hit free agency this offseason. It appears he has found a new home as Terez Paylor of Yahoo Sports is reporting that he will be remaining in the division, signing a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs:

Washington originally was a fifth-round pick of the Raiders in 2016 out of Tech Texas where he was a teammate of Patrick Mahomes, so this is a reunion for him.

He played in all 16 games for the Raiders last season and started three of them in place of the injured Jacobs, carrying the ball for 108 times for 387 yards and three touchdowns, adding 36 receptions for 292 yards in what was a career season.

Damian Williams is the starter in the Chiefs backfield, but Washington could have a solid path to playing time as his backup in 2020 with LeSean McCoy no longer on the roster.
