The big story surrounding the Las Vegas Raiders during the early part of this season was the ongoing Davante Adams saga. That ultimately came to an end when the franchise traded him to the New York Jets, but a major hole still remains in their receiving corps.
Rookie tight end Brock Bowers has been by far the team’s best option through the air as Jakobi Meyers has struggled with injury, and Tre Tucker and DJ Turner haven’t taken that next step. Fixing the issue during the season is unlikely, but the Raiders will have options once the offseason comes and there is an intriguing veteran who will be available in free agency.
Bleacher Report recently discussed ways for teams to fix their biggest holes, and pursuing Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin could be a move the team may consider:
The Raiders’ decision to trade Davante Adams was probably the right one, but it leaves a massive hole in the Raiders offense. Replacing Adams is more than a one-man job, but whoever is playing quarterback for the Silver and Black next year is going to need help. Preferably, some of that help will come from a proven veteran.
Chris Godwin’s future in Tampa Bay could be murky with Godwin suffering an ankle injury that ended his season. He was having a strong season before the injury, but he’ll be 29 this offseason and is looking for a new contract. He would be an ideal candidate for the Raiders to bring in and anchor the receiving corps for a new quarterback.
As was noted, Godwin suffered a dislocated ankle, which ended his season. However, prior to that injury, he was enjoying an excellent year with 50 catches for 576 yards and five touchdowns in seven games. He would represent a major upgrade to the Raiders receiving corps, but getting him out of Tampa could be tough.
Godwin has spent his entire career with the Bucs, and there could be some loyalty there. It may take an overpay to convince him to leave and join the Raiders and the front office will have to determine whether he is worth it. Whatever the case may be, the franchise must figure out the right moves to make to turn things around.
Travis Kelce shares moment with Raiders rookie TE Brock Bowers after game
One player who will definitely be part of turning things around for the Raiders is rookie tight end Brock Bowers, who currently leads all NFL tight ends in receptions and yards. His performance has stood out, and Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce shared a moment with Bowers after the Week 8 game between the teams.
Kelce praised the Raiders rookie, saying that he is happy for him and will keep doing his thing as he continues to grow into one of the NFL’s best.
