The first season for Antonio Pierce as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders has gone the complete opposite of how he wanted. Drama and turmoil surrounded the early part of the season, and the Raiders have now lost eight consecutive games and are currently tied for the second-worst record in the NFL at 2-10.

The franchise has already moved on from offensive coordinator Luke Getsy along with two other offensive coaches, and while the Raiders have looked a bit better, it hasn’t resulted in wins. All of this has led some to wonder whether Pierce’s job could be in jeopardy after just one season, and from the sounds of things, it could very well be.

According to Albert Breer of NFL Network, there is uncertainty surrounding Pierce and the Raiders coaching staff, and the franchise has done nothing to ease those concerns:

“There’s a lot of uncertainty, certainly that’s being felt on the part of the coaching staff. They’ve been given no assurances on 2025 and there’s a lot of buzz league-wide that Antonio Pierce could be one-and-done as the Raiders coach. Now on the flip-side as you guys could see tonight, he’s got the team playing very, very hard. They’ve gotten younger. They’ve gone from having the third-oldest roster in the league last year, to the sixth-youngest this year. Those young guys are developing and the move to Scott Turner as OC seems to have really worked for them. Now the one thing that we don’t know is how involved Tom Brady would be in any sort of decision Mark Davis makes on this going forward.”

Any time a team sits at the bottom of the standings, it only makes sense that the franchise would look to evaluate things, including the head coach. But as Breer noted, this isn’t a case of Pierce having lost the team, as the Raiders have played hard and been competitive in their last three games, most notably this past Friday against the Kansas City Chiefs.

It may not feel like it, and the record certainly doesn’t reflect it, but there are some things to build on for the Raiders. However, whether Pierce will be given the chance to do so or if Brady prefers to bring in someone else to run things remains to be seen.

Raiders QB Aidan O’Connell takes responsibility for botched snap vs. Chiefs

Last week’s loss to the Chiefs might have been the most disappointing of the season as the Raiders had put themselves in position for a game-winning field goal, only for a botched snap to be recovered by the Chiefs, ending all hopes of an upset.

Afterward, QB Aidan O’Connell put all of the blame on himself, saying he began clapping for the snap too early. O’Connell added that rookie center Jackson Powers-Johnson did exactly what he was supposed to do and that the blame should go to himself alone.
