Las Vegas Raiders star defensive end Maxx Crosby has established himself as a cornerstone of this franchise and one of the best defensive players in the NFL period. It’s not just what Crosby brings on the field, but also off of it as a leader with the example he sets.

Of course Crosby’s emergence as a force of this nature wasn’t expected as he was a fourth-round pick out a mid-level school in Eastern Michigan. Crosby has always had a lot of love for his alma mater and now he is putting even more on his plate.

The University announced that Crosby has been named as the assistant GM for the Eastern Michigan football program with the Raiders star taking on a number of different responsibilities, via Kevin Patra of NFL.com:

Eastern Michigan University announced Monday that Crosby has been named assistant GM for the football team, which entails evaluating high school and transfer portal prospects and helping manage the team’s NIL/revenue share budget. Crosby will also serve as a special assistant to the athletic director on fundraising, alumni relations and student-athlete support.

Crosby is the first active NFL player to hold this position, though not the first athlete as Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry was recently announced to the same position for the basketball program at his alma mater, Davidson University.

Nonetheless the Raiders star feels it is an honor to be able to help lift Eastern Michigan, via ESPN’s Ryan McFadden:

“There is no place more important to my personal and athletic development than Eastern Michigan University,” Crosby said in a statement released by the school. “It truly is an honor for me to not only be named the Assistant GM of the EMU, but together with my wife Rachel, make another donation aimed at creating opportunities for other athletes to be impacted by the EMU program, community, students and alumni.”

The donation Crosby is referring to is something else that was announced Monday known as “Maxx Match.” This is a fundraising challenge in which he will personally match all donations to the Eastern Michigan football program, up to $100,000, made before the end of May.

Obviously Crosby is locked in on his on-field career and helping lift the Raiders to the postseason, but he is taking his responsibilities with Eastern Michigan seriously as well, and do everything he can to help his alma mater thrive in this new collegiate landscape.

Raiders sign free agent LB Devin White

Maxx Crosby will be getting a little help on the defensive side as well as the team signed free agent linebacker Devin White in free agency. With the team having lost Robert Spillane in free agency, the opportunity for White to have a major impact for the Raiders is there.

White is a former Super Bowl Champion with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back in 2020 with a Second Team All-Pro and a Pro Bowl selection to his name. Still just 27 years old White should have plenty left in the tank and has 585 career tackles and 23 sacks in six NFL seasons.
