Just because the 2024 NFL Draft is now in the rearview mirror doesn’t mean the Las Vegas Raiders are done adding to the roster. General manager Tom Telesco and the front office are still looking at ways to make improvements and this team to where it wants to be.

One area that would seem to be pretty set is wide receiver, but a team can always use depth at any position, and the Raiders are looking at former Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Gallup for that.

According to ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez, the Raiders plan to sign Gallup to a one-year deal worth up to $3 million:

The Las Vegas Raiders plan to sign former Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Gallup to a one-year contract worth up to $3 million, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fowler.

This is a low-risk, high-reward move for the Raiders, as Gallup is still only 28 years old and, at one point, was an extremely promising player for the Cowboys. In 2019 he finished with 1,107 yards and six touchdowns, but he would tear his ACL at the end of the 2021 season and has never quite looked the same since.

Receiver is not necessarily a position of need for the Raiders so it will be interesting to see where Gallup ultimately fits in. Obviously, Davante Adams is at the top of the depth chart, with Jakobi Meyers providing an excellent number two option. Tre Tucker also showed flashes down the stretch of his rookie season and figures to be the Raiders’ deep threat this season.

The team also has a pair of promising tight ends who figure to be involved in the passing game. This year’s first-round pick, Brock Bowers, joins last year’s second-round pick, Michael Mayer, and both could be moved around in different formations to give the Raiders many different options.

Nonetheless, a change of scenery could be exactly what Gallup needs, and he could wind up being a big contributor.

Brock Bowers was ‘shocked’ to be drafted by Raiders

The Raiders had one of the most surprising first-round picks of the 2024 NFL Draft when they selected Georgia tight end Brock Bowers with the 13th overall pick. That Bowers was even available then was unexpected as most had him pegged as a top-10 pick and he admitted that he did not expect the Raiders to take him.

Bowers admitted to being ‘shocked’ that the Raiders picked him, but the Napa, California native is excited to play for the team he grew up watching. Bowers added that his versatility will allow for him to be an impact player for this team.
