With Jimmy Garoppolo rehabbing an injury for most of the offseason, the Las Vegas Raiders quarterback will need to use this time at training camp to develop chemistry with his new teammates. In particular, getting on the same page with All-Pro wide receiver DaVante Adams is of the utmost importance.

Last season Adams proved to the world he was not just a product of playing with Aaron Rodgers as he totaled 100 receptions for 1,516 yards and an NFL-leading 14 touchdowns. He also had a very close relationship with then-Raiders QB Derek Carr and now must forge a new one with Garoppolo.

And that relationship is getting off to a great start as Adams called his first day of practice with Garoppolo a productive one, via Paul Gutierrez of ESPN:

“He’s a great guy, easy to talk to,” said All-Pro receiver Davante Adams. “Super coachable, listens to my feedback and the way that I view the game, too. So today was very productive. A lot of conversation out there and we’ve just got to stay on that, continue with it to get to where we want to be.”

Likewise, Garoppolo had nothing but praise for his new top target, calling it a luxury for a quarterback to have a receiver like Adams:

“On one of the routes I threw him, I asked him if he was going full speed,” Garoppolo said. “He’s just so smooth, man, he looks effortless. I thought I overthrew him on one of the deep balls and he ended up getting to it. So, it was just things like that. It’s a luxury, as a quarterback, to have a guy like that. I’ve just got to get used to it.”

It will be a process for the pair to get on the same page, but things seem to be off to a good start. Quite frankly Garoppolo has never had a receiver the caliber of Adams who has an argument of being the best at his position in the game.

Garoppolo has always been praised as a great leader and a winner and if he wants to win with the Raiders, building that chemistry with Adams is essential. This Raiders offense has the potential to be one of the best in the entire NFL and Adams is the main reason why. The fact that both have come out of the first day with so much positivity is a good sign that things are on the right path.
