Raiders News: Dolphins Claim Wide Receiver Trevor Davis Off Waivers

The Miami Dolphins announced that they claimed former Oakland Raiders wide receiver Trevor Davis off waivers. Davis was just recently cut by Oakland after the Raiders activated linebacker Marquel Lee off injured reserve.

The Dolphins will be Davis’s third team in 2019, having been traded to the Raiders by the Green Bay Packers for a 2020 sixth-round pick earlier this year. Although Davis started a number of games at wide receiver, his specialty in Oakland was kick and punt returns.

There is no telling how Davis will affect the Dolphins rotation, but they certainly need some help at the wide receiver position. They have just four players listed at wide receiver and they are currently 24th in total passing yards.

Despite Davis securing a starting job with the Raiders for a short time, he was only able to total 83 yards on seven receptions. His struggles were amplified in the Week 13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs when he fumbled a kick return and then failed to pick up a fourth-and-short despite there being a hole to get the yard he needed.

With Hunter Renfrow likely done for the rest of the season and Davis no longer in the mix, the Raiders are once again weak at the wide receiver position. To help with the lack of depth, they added Rico Gafford to the depth chart by signing him off the practice squad. Gafford was an undrafted free agent in 2018 and joined the Raiders later that offseason. He has only played in one game in his short career but could be ready for more action in the coming weeks.
