The Oakland Raiders suffered their second consecutive loss at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6. However, it appears Bruce Irvin is taking an optimistic approach to their recent struggles.
The Raiders were flat-out embarrassed by the Seahawks in Week 7. According to Paul Gutierrez of ESPN, Irvin is looking at the glass as half-full:
“We lost, but I’ve got a beautiful wife I get to go home to, boy. I’m going to try to make some babies, man.”
It is encouraging to see that Irvin is not letting Oakland’s struggles affect his personal life. While enduring such a tough year is never ideal, it does not mean much in the grand scheme of things. Although it is good to know that Irvin is able to manage his work/life balance, it is clear that things are much better in the bedroom than they are on the field.
Oakland’s porous defense continues to be generous to opposing offenses. Only four teams in the entire league have given up more points per game than the Raiders have (29.3). Their lackluster outing versus Seattle was just the latest example of their struggles this season. Irvin may have 3.0 sacks on the year, however, he is part of arguably the worst pass-rush in the NFL.
Their mediocre performance this year has been magnified by all the talks of a looming rebuild. Oakland parted ways with Khalil Mack prior to the 2018 campaign. Now, reports have surfaced about their willingness to part ways with two former first round draft picks in Amari Cooper and Karl Joseph. Their potential fire sale has raised questions about whether or not Oakland seems to be in full-fledged tank mode. With all the commotion going on, perhaps it is best for players to look at things from Irvin’s perspective.
