The Las Vegas Raiders have been in a state of disarray the past few weeks which led to some major changes on head coach Antonio Pierce’s coaching staff.

One of the notable changes was firing former offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and elevating Scott Turner as the team’s interim offensive coordinator.

Turner has done well in previous stops around the league which is why Alexander Mattison expressed his excitement to see what he can do with the Raiders via Up & Adams:

“I’m excited,” Mattison said. “He was on staff in Minnesota when I was there. Me and Ameer [Abdullah] were actually at the same time there with Scott and just being a full-circle moment where he has this opportunity ahead of him. Of course, his dad’s a legend in the game so that’s amazing for him to have that. But he’s called plays in this league before and I’m excited for what he has to offer and his mentality.”

Mattison also said he and Turner have already talked about play calling and believes they’re on the same page as it comes to the running back position:

“I’m not that type of guy to always go to coach and ask for the ball, but I’m definitely gonna make sure I let him know however you can get me it, however I can help impact this game, however we as a running back group can get involved in this run that we’re heading to make that’s gonna be for the better.

“I think that there’s a lot of value in the running back position that’s kind of been devalued, but definitely in our running back room we emphasize how much we can impact the game and whatever phase of the game that is, whatever type of play that’s called we can make an impact. So I hope that he sees that. I had a conversation with him and he does it see it that way too, so I’m excited.”

Mattison and the rest of the running back room haven’t been quite as useful as the team hoped to begin the year, but with Turner on board perhaps that will change the rest of the way.

Raiders hire Norv Turner as assistant coach

Scott isn’t the only Turner with the organization now as the team also brought in his father Norv Turner to serve as an assistant coach. Norv previously served as the Raiders’ head coach in 2004 and 2005, but returns for a second stint.
