Raiders News: 16 Allegiant Stadium Construction Workers Test Positive For Coronavirus

The Raiders are in the midst of a big move, packing up their things in Oakland and heading to the desert in Las Vegas where they will play in the brand new state-of-the-art Allegiant Stadium.

Construction of the stadium is still going on, although it is expected to be completed before the Raiders’ first preseason game in 2020.

There have been some speed bumps along the way, however, as it was recently reported that one of the workers tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19). While that could compromise the health of some of the other workers, construction has gone on as usual as it was deemed an essential business during this difficult time.

It appears that worker may have passed the virus to some of the other ones as they ramped up testing at the construction site and 16 of them have now tested positive, per Mick Akers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal:

“This testing will help us better understand the nature of these cases and enable us to make further decisions,” the statement read.

There have been 16 positive cases of coronavirus identified on the site.

While this is certainly cause for concern, the construction company will continue business as usual, although they will be taking some precautions:

“Our team will make changes and adjustments as needed or identified to help protect everyone on the Allegiant Stadium project,” Mortenson-McCarthy said.

Hopefully the number stops at 16, but if they continue working then it wouldn’t be surprising to see it continue to grow in the coming weeks.

There is no indication that the stadium won’t be completed in time for the 2020 season, although it’s currently unknown if that will even take place on time due to the virus. If it does, then the Raiders will likely open SoFi Stadium with no fans in attendance.
