Jon Gruden made headlines when he claimed there are players who still want to play for the Oakland Raiders and it appears Derek Carr can confirm that notion.

It is no secret there is a negative stigma surrounding the Raiders given all that transpired during their disastrous 2018 NFL season. Reports had begun to surface about players wanting nothing to do with the franchise.

As a result, there was concern regarding the team’s free agent prospects moving forward. Fortunately, it seems reports about people not wanting to play for the Raiders have been overblown.

According to Matt Schneidman of the Bay Area New Group, Carr insists the team is still drawing heavy interest:

“I’ve talked to some guys. I wish I could tell you who … Contrary to popular belief, people want to come play for the Raiders. Coach Gruden was right about that.”

It is encouraging to see Carr double down on Gruden’s comments from earlier in the season. The Raiders will need all the help they can get in free agency if they hope to bounce back in the 2019 NFL season.

Unfortunately, Carr’s comments still seem a bit far-fetched considering the state of the franchise. The Raiders poached nearly all of their veteran and Pro Bowl talent in exchange for draft picks this season which has resulted in uneasiness throughout the locker room.

There is no question the team still has a long way to go before becoming an attractive destination for free agents. For starters, they will need to build a roster worthy of competing in the juggernaut AFC West moving forward, but most of their stock relies on which players they bring in through the 2019 NFL Draft.
