Obviously, during the NFL offseason, much of the focus for a franchise is on how they can improve on the field and the additions being made to the roster. But the Las Vegas Raiders could be making a big addition off the field at the highest level with the greatest quarterback of all time in Tom Brady.
Brady retired from football for good this offseason, but he is already exploring different avenues to be involved in, one of which is ownership. There are recent reports that Brady is in deep discussions about becoming a limited partner of the Raiders franchise.
Brady is obviously the most successful player in NFL history, and FOX Sports analyst Jay Glazer believes that success will translate to ownership as well as he told TMZ Sports:
“Anything Tom touches, he’s going to be successful. Any time you have Tom Brady around, it’s going to help. It’s not going to hurt. He’s a winner.”
Glazer would continue with his belief on why Brady will be successful, noting his work ethic will carry over to wherever he goes:
“Listen anytime you have a guy like Tom Brady, he’s the best whose ever lived. And he’s the best whose ever lived because he outworked the world, it’s that work ethic … And it’s not just at football, he’s gonna do it everywhere in life.”
Discussions between Brady and the Raiders are ongoing, and nothing has been made official. Furthermore, it is believed that Brady’s involvement would be ‘passive’ as he would have no operational control or authority over the Raiders in any business or football matters.
But as Glazer also noted in his talk with TMZ, if you have Tom Brady at your disposal, it would only make sense to lean on him for advice in certain decisions. Getting the viewpoint and opinion of the greatest quarterback ever on certain potential players the team could add makes sense.
This would be the latest partnership between Brady and Raiders owner Mark Davis. In March, Brady announced that he had purchased a stake in the Las Vegas Aces of the WNBA, a team also owned by Davis.
Should the deal ultimately be made official, Brady would still need the approval of at least 24 current team owners and would have to vet and approve Brady’s limited partnership, as is the case with all minority and majority owners. Additionally, it is believed that Brady’s 10-year, $375 million contract with Fox, which is due to start in 2024, would be unaffected by an investment in the Raiders.
