The Las Vegas Raiders have multiple major decisions to make this offseason, but one is already apparently in the books. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the team is finalizing a deal to hire former Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant GM John Spytek as their new general manager:

It has been previously reported that minority owner Tom Brady will be leaned upon heavily in the search for the Raiders’ next head coach and general manager and Spytek is someone whom Brady is familiar with.

Spytek was with the Bucs organization for the last nine years, during which Brady was the quarterback there for three seasons. The two were also college teammates at the University of Michigan and many believed that prior relationship made him a favorite for this job. How big of a role that played is unclear, but Spytek is undoubtedly qualified for this position.

The Bucs have been one of the better teams over the past few seasons, building up a talented roster on both sides of the ball. The arrival of Brady to the franchise undoubtedly played a big role in their success, but they have continued to be a playoff team even after Brady retired.

Brady is trying to build a winning culture to the Raiders and he surely believes Spytek will be a big part of that from a front office standpoint. Now with this being done, the Raiders can focus on finding their next head coach and making the necessary moves to bring this franchise back amongst the NFL elite where they expect to be.

Could the Titans be eyeing Raiders CB Nate Hobbs in free agency?

One of the things John Spytek will have to do as Raiders GM is figure out which of its own free agents they need to retain as well. One of the most important is CB Nate Hobbs who has been one of the best players on the defense and has been with the Raiders for the entirety of his NFL career so far.

Hobbs is one of the best slot cornerbacks in the NFL and a recent report noted that the Tennessee Titans could have an eye on him as they are in need of another corner and have the money to potentially lure him away from Las Vegas.
