The Raiders have been one of the busiest teams of the NFL offseason so far, beginning with their blockbuster trade of Maxx Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens for two first-round draft picks.

Since the start of the legal tampering period on Monday, the Raiders have also struck deals with several free agents. They most notably signed former Ravens center Tyler Linderbaum to a three-year, $81 million contract that made him the highest-paid interior lineman in NFL history.

Las Vegas also added the likes of Jalen Nailor, Kwity Paye, Quay Walker and Nakobe Dean, while additionally trading for former Buffalo Bills cornerback Taron Johnson and re-signing Eric Stokes and Malcolm Koonce.

The Raiders are now set to sign veteran kicker Matt Gay, via Tom Pelissero of NFL Network:

The Raiders’ signing of Gay all but signals the end of Daniel Carlson’s time in Las Vegas, who had been with the team since 2018. Carlson struggled at times last season, making 22 of his 27 field goal attempts and 21 of his 22 extra point attempts.

The 31-year-old’s field goal percentage of 81.5 was his lowest since joining the Raiders, but it’s still surprising that the team decided to make a change at kicker as Carlson not too long ago was considered one of the best players at his position.

The Raiders are replacing him with a former Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion in Gay, who split the 2025 season between the Washington Commanders and San Francisco 49ers. He made 17 of his 23 field goal attempts — including just 4 of 9 from 50 yards or longer — and all 26 of his extra point attempts.

Gay enjoyed his best season in 2021 with the Los Angeles Rams, which saw him make 32 of his 34 field goal attempts as part of their Super Bowl team. He has also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Indianapolis Colts in his career.

Maxx Crosby reacts to Raiders trading him to Ravens

Crosby discussed being traded on his podcast, “The Rush,” and lamented not being able to deliver a championship to the Raiders while also expressing excitement for his new chapter with the Ravens.

Crosby wanted nothing more than to win with the Raiders, but that was a challenge for most of his tenure in Las Vegas. The five-time Pro Bowler was part of only one winning season with the team in 2021, which ended with a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the Wild Card Round.
