The Las Vegas Raiders hired former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy this past offseason to help turn things around on that side of the ball. Unfortunately, the Raiders’ offense this season has not been up to par and the team chose to make a change.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Raiders have fired Getsy as offensive coordinator, while also releasing QB coach Rich Scangarello and offensive line coach James Cregg:
The Raiders have fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported on Sunday night. The team subsequently announced the parting of ways along with the oustings of QB coach Rich Scangarello and offensive line coach James Cregg.
The Raiders’ offense has been awful by any measurable. The team ranks 26th in the NFL in points and 29th in yards while also having major issues taking care of the ball with 19 turnovers which is the second-most in the league. The Raiders are also dead last in rushing yards so far this season.
Head coach Antonio Pierce spoke on the matter as well, saying that while he had confidence in Getsy, it was simply time for a change to be made, via Vic Tafur of The Athletic:
Antonio Pierce said he “had confidence in Luke (Getsy) that they could turn things around, but it was time to make a change.”

There are a lot of issues within the Raiders at the moment and it certainly shouldn’t fall all on the coaches as players take some of the blame as well. However moves like this must be made and sometimes getting a different voice in terms of calling plays and designing schemes is a necessity.
A new coordinator won’t automatically fix the problems going on with the Raiders, but the franchise had to do something to try and spark this team as this season is basically a lost cause with the team now at 2-7 and any hopes of a postseason run all but gone.
Raiders assistants Marvin Lewis and Rob Ryan have checked out?
Questions about the Raiders coaching staff have been going on for some time now and even though Luke Getsy was the one whom the franchise chose to part ways with, there are others who some feel haven’t been pulling their weight as well.
A recent report noted the criticisms aimed at Getsy, but also pointed to big-name defensive assistants Marvin Lewis and Rob Ryan as being “checked out” and are only with the Raiders for the payday.
