The Oakland Raiders announced on Tuesday that they have signed outside linebacker Kendall Donnerson to their practice squad and released defensive end Quinton Bell.
Donnerson was a seventh-round pick of the Green Bay Packers in 2018, but has yet to see any playing time. He spent a majority of his time on the Packers practice squad before moving up to the active roster last December.
The Packers placed Donnerson on their injured reserve list this offseason due to a hamstring injury. However, in mid-August they reached a buy-out agreement, making him a free agent.
Donnerson spent four years at South East Missouri State University. Although he played for the defense all four years, it was not until his junior year that he started playing the linebacker position. He is tied for 10th on the university’s all-time list of tackles for loss.
Bell was a seventh-round pick of the Raiders just this year. He is the nephew of former Raiders running back Nick Bell and spent most of his collegiate career as a wide receiver at Prairie A&M. However, during his last season, he made the move to a defensive end and excelled, recording 7.5 sacks.
He did not see any playing time during his short tenure with the Raiders, instead being relegated to the practice squad at the beginning of the year.
With Vontaze Burfict serving a suspension for the rest of the season, the Raiders could use some depth at linebacker. Donnerson will have the opportunity have to prove himself in practice to head coach Jon Gruden and if there’s another injury or two, it’s possible he finds his way onto the active roster.
