The Oakland Raiders announced on Monday that they have signed cornerback Dylan Mabin to a reserve/futures contract. The Raiders have done this with a handful of players over the last week, ensuring they are with the organization for offseason workouts and training camp in 2020.
Mabin was originally signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Fordham last year. He wound up being cut at the end of training camp but ended up being added to the practice squad so he was able to remain in the organization.
It is unlikely that Mabin is able to earn a spot on the 53-man roster next year given the team’s depth in the secondary. He will have an opportunity to prove himself and continue developing though, which could lead to a future with the Raiders down the road.
Raiders head coach Jon Gruden has ushered in a youth movement since taking over as head coach of the organization two years ago. They have gotten contributions from a number of young players the last two seasons, which could lead to other young, talented players choosing to join the Raiders in the years to come.
Oakland went 7-9 in 2019 but will have aspirations of returning to the postseason in 2020, their first season in Las Vegas.
