2021 NFL free agency started with a whirlwind of players quickly finding new homes, but things have slowed down considerably the past couple of weeks. Most of the impact free agents have already been signed, leaving veterans and underwhelming prospects left on the market.
The Las Vegas Raiders were one of the most active teams at the beginning, wheeling and dealing members of their offensive line while also adding threats to the passing game. They were also able to re-sign some of their own free agents, filling out most of their roster in the process.
While the Raiders have the core of their team settled, they have a couple of needs they should address. One of them is at cornerback as Las Vegas has been susceptible to big plays down the field, forcing them to come from behind more often than not.
The franchise has been reportedly eyeing Richard Sherman, and Vic Tafur acknowledged in an appearance on the State of the Nation podcast that the Raiders are still very much interested per Raiders Beat.
“You do hear [talk about] Richard Sherman,” Tafur said on the State Of The Nation podcast. “I still think that is still a possibility. I think he is kind of going at his own speed. I think there was a tweet that he’s in Vegas right now, at a casino, at a pool party, so he’s nearby. I think they’ve talked to him… so [that] definitely could be a match. I think he could definitely play right away so that’s the one guy that may happen before long.”
Sherman is coming off an injury-riddled 2020 season, but the veteran corner is productive when healthy. All signs show that he is ready to bounce back for the 2021 season, and he would immediately step in and be the best defensive back on the Las Vegas roster.
At 33 years old, it is fair to wonder how much Sherman has left in the tank, but the fiery defensive back would definitely help if the Silver and Black decide to bring him on board.
