The Oakland Raiders had some tough decisions to make when filling out their 53-man roster after a strong preseason, and one of the toughest was at the quarterback position.

The Raiders brought in veteran Mike Glennon in the offseason to back up Derek Carr, but Nathan Peterman performed just as well during the preseason and gave him a run for his money.

Instead of choosing between the two, Raiders head coach Jon Gruden decided to keep three quarterbacks as both Glennon and Peterman were listed on the team’s 53-man roster when it was announced on Saturday.

It appears that will not be lasting long though as according to Field Yates of ESPN, the Raiders are claiming quarterback Deshone Kizer off waivers from the Green Bay Packers:

Kizer is a former second-round draft pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2017 out of Notre Dame so he definitely has some promise. In 18 career games (15 starts) across his two seasons with the Browns and Packers, the 23-year-old has completed 53.1 percent of his passes for 3,081 yards. Turnovers have been an issue though as he only has 11 touchdown passes compared to 24 interceptions.

Claiming him off waivers means that he must be on the 53-man roster, so either Glennon or Peterman will likely be cut to make room for him. It will be interesting to see if the Raiders go with Glennon or keep two young quarterbacks that have struggled so far in their respective careers in Peterman and Kizer to back up Carr.
