The Oakland Raiders announced on Wednesday that they have elevated linebacker Justin Phillips from their practice squad and released wide receiver Ryan Grant. Additionally, Oakland has signed free agent linebacker Quentin Poling to the team’s practice squad.

The Raiders currently have a need at linebacker due to a variety of injuries. They also recently signed Dakota Allen from the Los Angeles Rams practice squad after placing Marquel Lee on IR.

Phillips originally went undrafted out of Oklahoma State this year and spent training camp and the preseason with the Dallas Cowboys before signing onto the Raiders practice squad before the start of the season.

He earned team MVP honors his senior season at Oklahoma State after having 98 tackles, the sixth-most in the Big 12.

Grant was one of the Raiders’ offseason signings to bolster their wide receiving corps although that never came to fruition. Grant was inactive in the Week3 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, and in the first two games, he only had four catches for 14 yards.

With Grant no longer in the mix, Keelan Doss and newly-acquired Trevor Davis should get some more opportunities moving forward.

Poling was a seventh-round draft pick by the New York Giants in 2018 out of Ohio. He spent most of his rookie season on their practice squad although he did appear in three games so has some experience.
