The Oakland Raiders announced on Tuesday that they have released offensive lineman Jonathan Cooper so they could make room on the roster for Richie Incognito, who is returning from his two-game suspension in Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings.
Cooper was initially taken with the seventh overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals out of North Carolina. Unfortunately, his career got off to a rough start due to injury and he has since become somewhat of an NFL journeyman.
He spent the 2018 campaign with the Washington Redskins competing for the starting job at left guard before a bicep tear ended his season. Even with Incognito and Gabe Jackson out, he did not suit up for the Raiders in their first two games of the season.
Incognito is expected to take over as the Raiders’ starting left tackle for the remainder of the season. He was suspended for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.
The Raiders have been banged up a bit on the offensive line with Jackson missing time so they will gladly welcome back a healthy body in Incognito. So far this season though, the Raiders offensive line has been solid as Derek Carr has only been sacked three times in their first two games.
