The Oakland Raiders announced that they have placed quarterback Nathan Peterman and cornerback Isaiah Johnson on IR and re-signed defensive end Josh Mauro and linebacker Kyle Wilber

This move clears up the question marks surrounding the Raiders roster after they claimed quarterback DeShone Kizer off waivers from the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, giving them four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster along with Derek Carr, Mike Glennon and Peterman.

Mauro was waived to accommodate that waiver claim but it turns out the Raiders had a plan all along as he is back just a day later with Peterman going to IR.

Mauro originally went undrafted in 2013 out of Stanford. He has spent time in the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants organizations before joining the Raiders and should provide their defensive line some solid depth.

Wilber spent the 2018 season with the Raiders but was cut when the 53-man roster was originally announced. He had 15 total tackles in 14 games last season and should contribute on special teams once again.

Peterman originally won a roster spot with his strong play during the preseason and training camp. The Raiders were only expected to keep two quarterbacks but Peterman’s outlook for the future made them want to keep him in the organization. The same can be said for Kizer, who takes Peterman’s place as the third-stringer with him going to IR.

It is possible Peterman could return this season after eight games if he were to be designated for return. Each team can designated two players to return from IR once the initial 53-man roster is formed although barring an injury, it is hard to see that happening with Peterman.

Johnson was the Raiders’ fourth-round draft pick out of Houston in 2019, but it appears an injury will cost him his rookie season.
