When the Oakland Raiders signed Trent Brown to a record-breaking contract this past offseason, the hope was that he would help turn the team’s offensive line into one of the best in football.
Through the first five games of the season, that signing has turned out great as Brown willingly moved over to right tackle and Derek Carr has mostly been held upright while Josh Jacobs has had big holes to run through all year.
The Brown signing has almost seemed too good to be true, and it now appears that is the case. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Brown is currently being sued for a domestic violence incident last March:
Raiders tackle Trent Brown, who signed a record contract earlier this year, has been sued in California for domestic violence.
The lawsuit, filed Monday in a California civil court on behalf of Diorra Marzette-Sanders, makes various accusations against Brown, the most serious of which are that Brown “slapped the Plaintiff across the face leaving her mouth bloody and her face bruised,” that he has “bruised, bloodied and battered” her on multiple occasions, and that he threatened to “shoot yo ass in the f–king head” when she threatened at one point to leave with their son.
This is obviously horrible news for the Raiders as they return from their bye week and get ready to travel to take on the Green Bay Packers in Week 7.
Raiders owner Mark Davis has had a no-tolerance policy for stuff like domestic violence in the past, so it will be interesting to see how he handles this situation.
Brown does not have any criminal charges against him, but if he loses this lawsuit and the accusations are true, it is hard to see him ever playing for the Raiders again. The league will likely start an investigation as well, which could result in a suspension.
Head coach Jon Gruden has not yet commented on the matter so it is unclear if Brown will be suiting up against the Packers this weekend. That will likely be determined in the near future.
