On Monday the Oakland Raiders announced that they have signed unrestricted free agent offensive tackle Marshall Newhouse to a reported two-year contract.
Newhouse was a fifth round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers in 2010 out of TCU and spent his first three seasons with the Packers. He then played one season with the Cincinnati Bengals before playing the last two seasons with the New York Giants.
He has played in 86 games with 56 starts over his seven-year career, and has appeared in six postseason games.
In the last two seasons with the Giants he appeared in 24 games, starting in 20 of them. Last year he was a part of an offensive line unit that allowed just 22 sacks on the season which was the third fewest in the league.
Newhouse joins a Raiders offensive line unit that was also one of the best in football last season, which included three Pro Bowlers in Donald Penn, Kelechi Osemele and Rodney Hudson.
Newhouse will likely replace offensive tackle Menelik Watson on the right side of the line, as Watson decided to sign with the Denver Broncos in free agency.
Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie has not made many moves yet this offseason, but Newhouse is likely the first of a few key offseason signing to help upgrade a team that made it to the postseason for the first time since 2003 last season.
