After the Oakland Raiders trimmed their roster to 52 players and decided to waive their fourth-round draft pick Tyler Wilson yesterday, the team announced they have signed seven players to their practice squad.

According to Raiders.com, the team signed two notable players including Matt McCants from the New York Giants and Marshall McFadden from the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday:

“Matt McCants is a former sixth-round selection in the 2012 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. After being waived by the Giants on Aug. 31, 2012, he was signed to their practice squad where he spent almost the entire season.”

“Marshall McFadden was originally signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offseason roster in Jan. 2012. Following being waived on Aug. 31, 2012, he was signed to the Steelers’ practice squad, where he spent most of the season. McFadden was signed to Pittsburgh’s active roster for the Nov. 18 game vs. Baltimore, seeing action on special teams and recording his first career special teams tackle. He was not on an NFL roster in 2011.”

In addition to McCants and McFadden, the team also signed Chance Casey, Greg Jenkins, Shelton Johnson, Brian Leonhardt, and Matt McCants.

Despite waiving Tyler Wilson, Oakland would also like to sign him to their practice squad and hope he clears waivers today. However, it appears unlikely that he will clear waivers as many teams are expected to be interested in the former Arkansas quarterback.
