The 2020 NFL Draft is now in the rearview mirror and the Las Vegas Raiders have to be pleased with how it turned out as they were able to come away with difference-makers on both sides of the field.
It was no secret that the Raiders needed to add more firepower to their offense and they did just that as they added Henry Ruggs III, Lynn Bowden Jr. and Bryan Edwards. The trio figure to see immediate playing time under Jon Gruden and provide Derek Carr more weapons to utilize.
Bowden, in particular, will likely be utilized several different ways as he did everything during his time in Kentucky. Classified as a receiver, Bowden saw snaps at running back and even quarterback in college, showcasing that he is a legitimate threat no matter where he lines up.
While answering questions on Bleacher Report, Bowden said Carr was one of the first people to reach out to him on draft night, via Raiders.com:
“Derek Carr called me right after I got drafted,” Bowden wrote, adding elsewhere that he’s really looking to playing with No. 4. “He’s a great QB.”
Carr has turned himself into quite the team leader and captain during his time with the franchise, and this is yet another example of him earning the trust and respect of his teammates. The quarterback had a bit of a bounce-back season during 2019, but now has real options like Bowden to help him out.
Knowing Gruden, he will find ways to use Bowden in different packages and give defenses exotic looks. His ability to carry the ball, run routes, and feasibly throw the football will allow Las Vegas to keep their opponents guessing.
While it is uncertain when or if the 2020 NFL season will take place, it is good to know that the Silver and Black seem equipped to hang with the rest of the league. Bowden should help boost a Raiders offense and hopefully get them one step closer to getting back into the playoffs.
