The Las Vegas Raiders certainly got better during the 2023 NFL Draft, bringing in some young talent that should come in and immediately start for a team that’s desperate to make the postseason.

While fans are excited about the new group of players coming to Las Vegas, the organization still has some outstanding questions it needs to answer. The biggest one is the future of Josh Jacobs as he has yet to sign his franchise tag tender and is currently missing from offseason training activities.

After a successful 2022 season where he led the NFL in rushing yards and was made First-Team All-Pro, it seemed like a no-brainer for the Raiders to extend him. Instead, they’ve seemingly planted their flag and don’t appear too thrilled with the idea of handing out a lucrative contract to someone at the running back position.

The lack of reporting on contract negotiations has to be concerning for the Silver and Black faithful, and they received more reason to worry when Jacobs posted a message to his personal Snapchat account via Reigns Design:

It’s never good to read too much into social media posts, but Jacobs didn’t seem to mince words when it came to his feeling about Las Vegas. Perhaps he’s simply talking about staying away for just the offseason, but given the circumstances that doesn’t seem too likely.

The Raiders would be fools to not bring back Jacobs as they don’t currently have anyone on the roster who can run the football as he does. Zamir White was rarely used last season and doesn’t seem ready for a full-time role, so it would make complete sense to just re-sign Jacobs.

Assuming a deal doesn’t get done between Las Vegas and Jacobs, they could look to trade him before the season starts though that is not often seen after the draft. Should Jacobs become available, though, there will be several teams in line for his services.

As is the case in the NFL, things can change quickly so fans shouldn’t lose hope about Jacob’s future with the team. The situation is definitely worth monitoring over the next couple of weeks.

Josh Jacobs has not had meaningful talks with Raiders about extension

It’s odd that there hasn’t been any recent word on where the Raiders stand about Jacobs’ extension. The last report noted that the running back hadn’t engaged in meaningful talks on a contract and that appears to be the status quo for the foreseeable future.
