The NFL announced that Oakland Raiders running back Josh Jacobs has been named the AFC Offensive Rookie of the Month for October.

Jacobs won the award despite only playing three games due to the Raiders’ bye week, but in that time he rushed 62 times for 313 yards and two rushing touchdowns, also hauling in eight receptions for 45 yards.

In those three games, Jacobs rushed for 100 yards twice, which was first among all rookies in October and tied for first among all NFL players. He averaged 104.3 rushing yards per game in the month, which ranked fourth in the league and first among rookies.

When the Raiders drafted Jacobs in the first round out of Alabama, the hope was that he would become the team’s every-down back, and he has been all of that and more to this point. In seven games to begin his career, Jacobs has 124 rushes for 620 yards and four touchdowns in addition to 11 receptions for 102 yards.

Jacobs has been a key part in a Raiders offense that has been much-improved this season as Oakland is the only team in the league to score three or more touchdowns in each of their last four games.

The Raiders are only 3-4 on the year though, so Jacobs will have to continue his strong play and others will have to match it if they want to get back in the postseason race.
