Raiders News: Derek Carr Reacts To Colts Quarterback Andrew Luck Announcing Retirement
Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck shocked the football world on Saturday night when he announced that he is retiring from the NFL at the age of 29.

Luck was drafted first overall by the Colts in 2012 out of Stanford, and in six NFL seasons, he was named to four Pro Bowls. He dealt with a variety of different injuries throughout the course of his career though, and he finally just said that he has had enough and walked away from the sport that he has been playing his whole life.

His decision to walk away at such a young age sparked some controversy on social media, but many players throughout the league shared posts in support of Luck.

One of those posts was Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, who has known Luck dating all the way back to their days as high school quarterbacks in the state of Texas. Carr took to his Twitter account to react to the news of Luck’s retirement and wish him the best of luck:

Carr and the Raiders are set to play the Colts in Week 4 on Sept. 29 in Indianapolis, so they will no longer have to worry about game planning for Luck. Backup Jacoby Brissett is expected to take over as the team’s starter this season.

The bottom line when it comes to Luck is that while he left a lot of money on the table, you can’t put a price on health and peace of mind. Luck will have an opportunity to spend time with his family and watch his kids grow up without the burden of head and brain injuries.

It sucks to see such a talented player walk away from the game so soon, but Luck did what is best for him and his family, and that is easy to understand and support.
