After beating the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7 of the 2017 NFL season, the Oakland Raiders might finally be back on track after their recent four-game skid. Derek Carr appears to be healthy again and the offense is starting to find its groove.
Amari Cooper had his best game by far against the Chiefs as he went for 211 yards and two touchdowns. The Raiders had been missing their wideout’s explosiveness and versatility but should be encouraged going forward.
Carr was more than complimentary when speaking about Cooper because according to Paul Gutierrez of ESPN, the quarterback compared the receiver to LeBron James:
[James] was talking about how he played point guard this past game, and you take a guy that’s super smart that can go from playing the 3 and then go to play the 1, and he can go play the 5,” Carr said. “He knows all the sets. He knows all the plays.“Amari’s the same kind, mentally,” Carr continued. “He’s the same kind of guy, where he can go play X, F, he can play the Y he can play the Z. He can play H.”
Carr is a well-known NBA fan and comparing Cooper to James is a clear sign he believes in the third-year wideout. While Cooper may not be as dominant on the field as James is on the court, he is more than capable of terrorizing opposing defenses much like the small forward.
Oakland will more than likely need another big game from Cooper when the team hits the road to face off against the Buffalo Bills in Week 8. The Bills, led by Tyrod Taylor, will be a tough challenge for the silver and black.
