When a team comes in with the expectations that the Las Vegas Raiders had this season, it is normal for there to be frustrated when they fail to live up to them. As the leader of the team, quarterback Derek Carr has always had no problems addressing whatever needs to be done when the team is struggling.
The latest disappointment came in Jacksonville as the Raiders fell 27-20 to the Jaguars despite getting out to a 17-0 lead. It was the third time this season the team lost after holding such a lead, and now, sitting at 2-6, frustrations seem close to boiling over.
Following the contest, Carr would not go into details on what needs to change for the Raiders, saying that it was something that didn’t need to be said in public, but he did admit that there are some things that need to be addressed in the locker room, via RaidersBeat.com:
“I think there’s a lot I want to say, but if I’m honest I don’t need to say it here,” Carr said as he paused several times to think through what he wanted to say.
“There are things that will be said that need to be addressed and all those things, but I think as a whole the urgency part of it that after 30 minutes of football we have to learn that the game is not over,” Carr continued. “I feel like I’ve been in this situation a lot where [we have] new coaches, or this or that, you have to teach the new guys ‘this is how we do it’… and that gets tiring, but at the same time it’s my job. I’ll say that for right now, but there’s things in house that we’ll talk about man to man…”
Whether it is frustration with the coaches or certain players, or perhaps it is a culture within the locker room that needs to be broken, but whatever the case may be, something clearly needs to change. Barring an unbelievable run to end the season, hopes of a playoff push are all but over for this team after many believed they had a chance to win the division.
But even if they aren’t able to accomplish that goal, there is still plenty the Raiders can do to at least go out fighting and with their heads held high. Carr clearly believes there are things within themselves that must be spoken about, and he sounds like he is gonna make sure they don’t go unsaid.
