The Oakland Raiders announced that they have elevated wide receiver Rico Gafford from the practice squad and waived center Erik Magnuson.

The move to add another receiver to the active roster does not come as much of a surprise after rookie Hunter Renfrow went down with a broken rib and punctured lung in the Week 12 loss to the New York Jets. It is unknown how long Renfrow will be out, but it is expected to be an extended period of time, perhaps the remainder of the season.

Gafford spent most of the 2018 season on the Raiders practice squad before being activated in December. He had a solid showing during the preseason this year, but wound up being waived and back on the practice squad at the end of training camp.

He should provide the team’s with some depth on the outside with other receivers like Keelan Doss likely seeing an increased time in the slot while Renfrow is out.

Magnuson spent the first half of the 2019 season on the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad before the Raiders signed him in October when they had some offensive lineman dealing with injuries. He played in six snaps in the Raiders’ Week 9 victory over the Detroit Lions, but with all of the team’s starters upfront now healthy, they could afford to part ways with one of their backups to add a receiver and Magnuson ended up being that casualty.
