The Oakland Raiders announced on Monday afternoon that they will be hosting the Los Angeles Rams for two joint practice sessions as part of the team’s 2019 Training Camp schedule.
The Raiders and Rams have had a storied history together as the two teams shared Los Angeles during the 1980s and early 90s before both departed for Oakland and St. Louis, respectively.
Now, the Rams are back in Los Angeles and the Raiders will soon be on the move again. However, the two teams will be coming together once again, this time in Northern California. The teams will share the field on Wednesday, Aug. 7 and Thursday, Aug. 8.
The NFL preseason schedule has the pair of teams going head-to-head in their pre-season openers. The game will be the last time the Silver and Black are scheduled to host the Rams before moving to Las Vegas for the 2020 season. The pre-season opener will take place on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 5 p.m.
Although its only preseason, this matchup could be very big for the Raiders. The game provides an opportunity for the Raiders many young players and new stars to show what they are made of against the reigning NFC champions.
In particular, the two-man game between quarterback Derek Carr and new wide receiver Antonio Brown should be something to keep an eye on. The two have reportedly gotten along very well and have had good chemistry during practice. Facing a tough secondary like the Rams’, even if it’s just during practice, will be a good barometer of how the Rams stack up offensively against the league’s best.
This marks the second consecutive year that the Raiders have had another team come share the practice field with them. Last year, the Detroit Lions made the trip to Napa for joint practices.
The team will be announcing additional practice dates and times later this week.
